In the beautiful Vespignano hill, in the shadow of the church of San Martino, the house of Giotto looks like an ancient medieval building modified over the centuries by numerous interventions that have enriched its original appearance.

Giotto’s House, in addition to its remarkable historical interest, offers the visitor the opportunity to enjoy a multimedia path inside the museum.

The first rooms of the museum, on the ground floor, are dedicated to Giotto: the visitor can enjoy both a video on the artist’s figure, as well as interactive media stations that allow to outline a personal path of study.

The top floor is, instead, a laboratory with two rooms for exhibitions and events and an interesting color room.

Giotto and his Vicchio

After a long dispute, academics have decreed that Vicchio is the real birthplace of Giotto, who was born in a peasant family and then became the brilliant artist who performed one of the greatest figurative revolutions in history, with which he influenced the entire world.

Giotto di Bondone was born in Vicchio in 1267 and was a pupil of the Cimabue school. Through his art he breaks with the Byzantine tradition to reconnect with the Roman, recovering the perspective and using the chiaroscuro technique.

Towards the end of his career, he is appointed superintendent of the yard of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, where he will deal with the famous bell tower by drawing his base.
