Popular Festivals and Events in Mugello

Feasts, festivals and events saw throuhgt Mugello Villa Campestri staff eyes.

Mugello, as the whole Tuscany, is a land rich in traditions handed down from generation to generation.

Traditions but also festivals and events in Mugello make unique this mountain region just a few kilometers from Florence.

Events in Mugello of the past

The oral culture in Mugello and in the nearby Val di Sieve has passed down through the generations guarding over the centuries ancient knowledge, songs and traditions.

In the rural world, festivals and events were so many and each had its typical dance or sing as the Ottava Rima, Sciòrtisse, danced games and Vàrzere.

To keep the memory of all this baggage of traditions, in 2001 was born the Cultural Association La Leggera that now has a permanent establishment in Rufina where you can consult the Centre for Research and Archives of Oral Cultures.

Events in Mugello Today

Nowdays there are many events in Mugello.

In addition to the tasty culinary visits we suggest to the tourists to visit important historical residences such as:

  • Palazzo dei Vicari a Scarperia
  • Villa Pecori Giraldi a Borgo San Lorenzo con le ceramiche della famiglia di Galileo Chini
  • Palazzo dei Capitani di Palazzuolo Sul Senio

Among the many events in Mugello we found the Magnalonga of particular interest, suitable for all ages.

Magnalonga in Vicchio was founded over 20 years ago and in recent years reappears on May 1st in honor of Labor Day.

It is a walk that allows participants to follow a route specially designed in Mugello Apennines with refreshment stops where to taste the local products.

Departure from the main town square to follow the path of “Barbiana Kids”, that in the 60s the kids of Vicchio took to go to the school of Don Milani.

The Magnalonga tour continues with a climb to the castle, then the Casacce, the source at the Goat and with a final push to the summit of Monte Giovi, where 71 years ago the partisan brigades left for the liberation of Florence.

The fatigue of the walker is rewarded with a unique view of the Sieve Valley, the Arno Valley and Florence.

Events in Mugello related the festivities

In the Christmas period the winter makes this territory even more fascinating thanks to the magic of the small mountain villages.
