It might only be February but due to unseasonably warm weather, Italians are enjoying a very ‘spring-like’ winter season this year. One of the many advantages of living in such a diverse region as Tuscany, is that visitors have access to many, gorgeous parks – full of history and which also make the perfect place for an afternoon picnic.
1. The Pinocchio Park in Collodi – for those who adored the beatiful tale written by Carlo Collodi of everyone’s favorite curious wooden boy, Pinocchio! This park combines art, architecture, depictions from the book, workshops and even a nearby Butterfly house perfect for families of any age.
Hours: High Season (1 March – 1 November): open every day from 8.30 a.m. until sunset. Low season (2 November – 28 February): holidays from 10.00 a.m. until sunset.

2. Pratolino Park and Villa Demidoff. This amazing park in Tuscany in only 40 minutes from Villa Campestri and was comissioned by the Gran duke Francesco I de’ Medici in 1568 in order to create a beautiful park with artificial caves, statues and art for the surrounding Villa Demidoff. The perfect place to spend an afternoon picnic, this park also made the Cultural and Natural Heritage List of UNESCO’s World Heritage – together with other 13 Medici villas and gardens in Tuscany.
The Pratolino Park is open to the public on Saturday, Sunday and holiday from April to October. From April 2014 open on Fridays too!

3. Park at Villa Campestri olive oil resort.
