Every year in Vicchio there is an ancient festival linked to the traditions of this beautiful village in Mugello.
Discover with us all the info and the program of the Fiera Calda of Vicchio 2019!
Birthplace of Giotto and Beato Angelico, Vicchio has a very ancient origin that dates back to the Etruscan period, as shown by the archaeological excavations of Poggio Colla.
In 1295 it was annexed to the area of influence of the Municipality of Florence and the Montesassi bridge (today’s Ponte a Vicchio) was built. With the construction of the walls (1324) that enclosed a much larger area than the ancient urban center, the village definitively became part of the Florentine countryside.
Among the monuments in the historic center we can remember the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista whose origin dates back to the 14th century but which has undergone several reconstructions over the years, and the Oratorio della Misericordia in which the “Gesù Morto” is located, wax work by Clemente Susini.
Near the oratory is the house where Benvenuto Cellini lived.
Like all Tuscan towns, Vicchio also offers numerous opportunities to enjoy popular and typical feasts.
Among the most significant events taking place in the historic center are the Festa dei Fichi on Palm Sunday, the Spring Festival on the 2nd Sunday of May, the feast of the Patron on 24 June and the Fiera Calda from last Wednesday of August until the following Sunday.
The Fiera Calda is truly one of the most ancient and popular traditions of Vicchio.
Tradition has it that every year the last Wednesday of August begins and ends the following Sunday.
In the past it was known throughout the Florentine countryside for the abundance of goods and animals on display and for the multitude of people who came from all over to participate.
Today, the Fiera Calda of Vicchio is a great moment of celebration and exchange.
Over the years, the event has changed, combining tradition and innovation and becoming a showcase for craftsmanship and agro-food products typical of the Mugello area.
Also the edition of the Fiera Calda 2019 will be full of events, with craft shows, art exhibitions, concerts, flea market, food stands and much more.
The program of the 2019 Hot Fair, as usual in recent years, will be developed in the historic center, with the Parco della Rimembranza destined to host local craft companies.
The historic market will instead develop as it enters the Fair, between Viale Beato Angelico and part of Piazza della Vittoria where there will also be a renewed animal showcase this year focused on the excellence of the meat and milk supply chain of Mugello breeders.
There will be many demonstrations and workshops dedicated to children and families.
Finally, Piazza Giotto will host the evening shows, including live music, dance performances, the famous bingo of the Fair and much more.
