Summer in Tuscany means an abundance of “sagras,” local festivals celebrating traditional dishes that take place throughout July and August in towns of the entire region. In the Mugello, the tortello is the dish to celebrate: a potato-stuffed ravioli that sounds like it might be heavy, but always turns out to be a delicious, even light, opener to any typical meal of the region. It’s certainly a must in our menu at the Villa Campestri, and our chef Roberto Zanieri is a master at preparing this traditional dish. Last spring, at our annual AmorOlio week, our guests learned how to prepare them as well. At Villa Campestri tradition and modernity blend to create a veritable magic for the palate.
We’re proud of our tradition at Villa Campestri. But it’s not only at our olive oil resort that you’ll find such celebration. In all the surrounding area of the Mugello, in August, at the height of vacation season, lovers of good food come out to celebrate the region’s specialties. Especially in the main town of the Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo, we can promise an unforgettable moment for all who appreciate special foods.
The Sagra of the Tortello takes place all during August, on the 4th and 5th, again on the 10th, 11th and 12th, and especially on Ferragosto, the 14th and 15th of the month.
The centerpiece is the tortelli, but other traditional dishes of the Mugello are well in evidence, from grilled meats to various vegetable dishes and lots of good wine.
At Villa Campestri we know well the value of traditional foods and in each of our events and at each of our meals we try to put a pinch of the past that goes so beautifully with our modern table as well.
Your stay at Villa Campestri will be even happier and carefree when you take the time to explore and discover the wonderful surroundings and beautiful towns around.
