Why Tuscany Is Amazing in Autumn

We love Tuscany during any season but visiting during Autumn is a wonderful time to soak up a little Italian air. Despite the occasional rainstorm, we often have sunny days and there are usually less crowds than the busy summer months.

Of course, it also means harvest time, first with grapes for wine and later with olives of olive-oil. An exciting time around our farm! Harvest time is a tradition in our family that we love to share with our guests. We are very excited to see what 2014 has in store for our olive-oil which everyone in the family helps cultivate.

Also there are plenty of cultural events going on that will keep any weekend exciting for the tourist or long-term Tuscany traveler. If you are looking for a taste journey in Tuscany, we love this list compiled by the region of food festivals that are as lively as they are delicious. If it’s truffles you crave or even the exotic squid, there really is a food festival for everyone’s tastes during this season. For a more in-depth experience, we recommend attending our six-day gastronomic getaway this October with famous food writer/blogger, Emiko Davies.

Another reason to love autumn is the plethora of opportunities to search for truffles and mushrooms in our hidden forests. If this is something you want to experience first-hand, we highly recommend going on a special ‘truffle hunt’with a local expert which Villa Campestri can organize for you directly. Plus, if we find some, we could use it to whip up a creative creation in our restaurant, L’Olivaia.

We would love to hear from you, if you are staying with us this autumn, send us your pictures to our facebook page, or add the hashtag #villacampestri to instagram or twitter!
