Montepulciano is a noble city, nestled between the Val d’Orcia and the Val di Chiana, an absolutely incredible destination that fascinates people from all over the world who rush to buy houses and land right here.
Its medieval village envelops visitors in a unique atmosphere, the delicious food typical of the area makes even the saddest visitor happy, and its landscape restores the soul in peace.
But it is its wine, Montepulciano, that has made the reputation of this village grow until it reaches all corners of the world. A visit to the cellars that produce this nectar is therefore essential. Let’s see below which wineries to visit.
A few steps from the center there is an underground cellar that resembles a Roman-Gothic cathedral in shape. Entering this temple is like diving into history.
A story of successes, of great tradition and of a thousand anecdotes related to winemaking. The visit is extremely interesting and well managed by the owners who in about 30 minutes will be able to introduce you to the world of Montepulciano.
After that comes the fun: in fact, you pass to the tasting room and here the palate will be delighted by extraordinary wines accompanied by Tuscan cold cuts and cheeses that will complete the taste. All with the presence of sommeliers who will provide exhaustive explanations and advice on tasting.
Just below the historic buildings of the city, between narrow tunnels, stone stairs and hidden crypts, is the “underground city” of the Ercolani Cellars.
Here the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Vin Santo Doc rests in the precious barrels, which is prepared to delight the most refined palates all over the world.
The Ercolani farm offers visits where you can taste wines and typical products of the Tuscan territory, such as cured meats, truffles and pecorino, which are all produced within the company.
Over time, Ercolani has also created three small museums within the company that allow you to see the development of viticulture tools and techniques over time and also a wonderful Etruscan tomb!
A few steps from Piazza Grande, passing through a small door you enter a different world, in another dimension hidden from outside gaze: the cellar of the Talosa Farm.
While visiting this incredible place and wandering among barrels of fine wine, you will have the distinct feeling of being immersed in the most ancient history: it is no coincidence that during the visit you will be able to admire ancient marine fossils and an Etruscan tomb.
But after being completely captivated by this fascinating atmosphere, you will arrive at the tasting room where 4 different types of wines will be available.
Everything will be accompanied by typical cold cuts and the legendary bruschetta with Tuscan oil! The palate will be led to degrees of pleasure that are really difficult to reach.
